SENIOR PROJECT ENGINEER – ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS

The Senior Project Engineer - Electrical Systems is part of Great Lakes' Plant and Equipment Department reporting to the Electrical Systems Manager.  The position is located at our Oak Brook corporate office and will require approximately 25% travel.
 
The position offer challenge, variety and the opportunity to be involved in a broad range of activities supporting the engineering and electrical needs of our fleet and operations across multiple project sites.  The successful candidate will have excellent project management skills with demonstrated capabilities in design, budgeting, scheduling, reporting and vendor coordination.  The position will interface and work closely with the Company's Estimating, Mechanical Engineering and Operations groups to assure successful project execution.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities encompass everything from new build documentation to onsite field support.  The essential elements of the position include, but are not limited to:
  • Prepares project estimates, proposals, drawings and inquiries as required to meet the needs of the equipment group and the project estimating group
  • Prepares schedules and coordinates with subcontractors and suppliers to meet project requirements
  • Executes upgrade project proposals including pricing, specifications and single line drawings as required
  • Coordinates with the mechanical engineering group on projects requiring joint execution
  • Travels to project locations around the U.S. and globally to work on assignments as assigned by the Electrical Systems Manager
  • Works with other electrical group team members to develop operating procedures and document same
  • Maintains accurate records of drawings and revisions in our electronic document system

  • Maintains records of software purchases and installations on company vessels
  • Performs on-call work during off-hours as necessary
  • Follows safe and compliant working procedures
Requirements
  • BS in Electrical Engineering with at least 10 years experience
  • Proven track record of achievement and advancement
  • Experience in the marine industry preferred
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Proficiency in AutoCad drawing and Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to take the initiative, work independently, make decisions and develop recommendations
  • Ability to build strong working relationships both internally and externally
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
