PORT ENGINEER
|
|
Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation is the
largest provider of dredging, land reclamation and beach nourishment services

the US, Great Lakes serves a wide range of customers including the US Army Corps
of Engineers; state, local and foreign governments; and private companies both
international and domestic. Headquartered in Oak Brook, Illinois, GLDD has more
than 200 pieces of dredging plant located strategically throughout North
America and in various locations throughout the world. We are currently seeking a Port Engineer to
join our team. This position will be
based from your home location but due to the nature of our business, extensive
travel will be required. |

Responsibilities
|
- Keep the fleet of dredges and attendant
plant running safely and efficiently
- Work with the Maintenance Manager, Chief
Mechanical Engineer and Division Manager to schedule and coordinate
repairs to best fit operations schedule and achieve the “best value” with
all repairs
- Use the NS-5 system help to develop a
maintenance plan, budget and history and an accurate equipment inventory
and spare parts inventory
- Ensure that the Maintenance Manager, Chief
Mechanical Engineer and Division Manager are informed of the condition, necessary
repairs, and damage to and from the vessels
- Maintain the fleet in accordance with the
standards set by Great Lakes Dredge and Dock, and regulatory bodies as
applicable, including but not limited to: ABS, USCG, US Army Corps of
Engineers, etc
- Serve as a liaison between the Company and
regulatory authorities, shipyards, outside repair contractors, customers,
and crewmembers
- Work with the purchasing department to
acquire all services and materials needed to maintain the fleet. All purchasing procedures are to be
strictly adhered to
- Oversee dry-dock repairs, major repairs and
modifications. Assist in writing specs and settling invoices for these
repairs
- Visit dredges and job
sites to work with the onboard personnel to generate and prioritize crew
work lists. Oversee and evaluate crew activities to
ensure safe and efficient work practices
- Submit weekly reports on repairs completed
and needed, observations of equipment visited, plans for the following
week and general notes on equipment. Weekly report to include budget cost,
current cost and estimated completion cost of all on-going projects

- Generate reports after major repairs, dry
dockings and equipment surveys

Requirements
|
- The ideal candidate will have a bachelors
degree
- 3-5 years experience working in a similar
capacity preferred
- Conduct
hull inspections, enter confined spaces, and survey damage to vessels
(crouching, bending crawling is required)
- Lift,
push or pull up to 35 lbs. of weight
- Climb
stairs and ladders
- Work
on dredges and barges in all types of weather conditions
- Extensive
travel
