ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Great Lakes performed dredging operations on a major civil works navigation channel deepening project within the Ambrose Channel. Dredging within the Ambrose Channel encompassed deepening the entire 10.6-nautical-mile-long channel, extending from deep water in the Atlantic Ocean to the Narrows. The work was performed over two contracts requiring that the channel be excavated and maintained at a depth of 53 feet with a bottom width of 2,000 feet. Both contracts were performed with trailing suction hopper dredges that had been equipped with unexploded ordnance (UXO) screens to prevent any contamination at disposal.
