ABOUT THIS PROJECT

This project entailed capital dredging on a four-mile stretch of the Kill Van Kull Channel within the New York Harbor. Located between Staten Island and Bayonne, the Kill Van Kull Channel connects to the Arthur Kill Channel, Newark Bay and Upper New York Bay in the harbor’s shipping network. Capital dredging within the channel was part of a larger effort to deepen nearly 38 miles of shipping channels between New York and New Jersey. This project was critical to the development of a world-class harbor estuary on the East Coast and crucial to maintaining greater navigation of important commercial ports in the area.
