GREAT LAKES FLEET
Great Lakes is proud to own a current and robust fleet consisting of cutter suction dredges, trailing hopper dredges, mechanical dredges, drillboats, hydraulic loaders, barges, booster pumps, survey vehicles, and dozens of other specialized support vessels, including land equipment. The diversity of our fleet allows us to execute dredging contracts of all sizes and degrees of complexity.
Trailing Suction Hopper
Hopper Dredges are designed to vacuum material from the sea floor through drag arms that load the material into the hold of the vessel.
Cutter Suction Dredges
Cutter Suction or Hydraulic dredges are floating platforms equipped with a rotating cutter that excavates the sea floor and feeds the loosened material into a pipe and pump system that transports the material and water slurry up to distances of five miles.
Mechanical
Mechanical clamshell dredges are floating platforms that house a heavy-duty cycle crane that uses a wire rope suspended bucket to excavate the sea bottom.
Rivers & Lakes
GLDD’s Rivers and Lakes division specializes in the dredging of challenging shallow water environments such as lakes, reservoirs, rivers and inland channels. This division maintains one of the largest fleets of dredging and marine construction equipment within the inland river system.
Auxiliary Equipment
GLDD designs and builds specialty equipment to either enhance or address special requirements from clients. Some ideas involve adaptation, or improvement, of existing technology. Other ideas may involve the development of completely new technology.
Support Equipment
GLDD boasts a variety of support equipment charged with assisting the company’s dredging fleet in the loading and transportation of removed sediment.
