ABOUT THIS PROJECT
Creation of marshlands is a high environmental priority for the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), as restored wetlands serve as the state’s future first line of defense against hurricane-driven flooding. The DNR contracted Great Lakes to dredge and rebuild 500 acres of new marsh in the Bayou Dupont. The project consisted of hydraulically dredging material from a Mississippi River borrow area just west of the navigation channel, with placement at two marsh creation sites. Additional work included the building of 27,000 feet of containment dikes.
